Agility Robotics plants its flag in Tesla's backyard

Source: TechCrunch  Â·  July 17, 2026

Agility Robotics is opening a 60,000-square-foot facility to train its humanoid robots in Fremont, California, just up the highway from where Tesla is expected to start manufacturing its Optimus robots this year.

The Atomic take

Agility Robotics already has Digit deployed in warehouses, so putting a 60,000-square-foot training facility next to Tesla is a bet that proximity to Bay Area talent and suppliers matters as much as manufacturing scale. The move sets up a direct recruiting and engineering race with Optimus in the same labor market. Watch whether Agility uses this site to accelerate real customer deployments while Tesla is still trying to get Optimus off the production line.
