Nscale is selling Figure $3.5bn of compute and buying a stake in it
Nscale has agreed to supply Figure with at least $3.5 billion in computing power while also acquiring an equity stake in the humanoid robot company. The partnership announced September 3 highlights the convergence of compute infrastructure investment and robotics development.
The Atomic take
Nscale taking equity while selling compute is vendor financing dressed as a supply deal, the same circular arrangement now binding GPU providers to their largest customers, except here the customer is training humanoid robots rather than chatbots. The tell is that a robotics firm needs $3.5 billion in compute at all, which puts Figure's vision-language-action models in the same training-cost bracket as frontier AI labs. Watch whether Nscale can actually fund and deliver that capacity, and whether Figure's robot deployments generate revenue fast enough to justify a bill this size.
